There is a need to make a home for yourself at some point in your late 20s or early 30s. This is a sign of financial stability and maturity that many may not have when they still live with others. This also helps if you like to read while you are comfortably sitting in bed. This just makes everything convenient and less of a hassle for you and a girl, maybe.
Having a coat rack and some shelves near the entrance is a thoughtful piece that lets you put your coat, scarves and shoes somewhere that does not look messy. This also encourages you not to throw your jackets and other clothing everywhere. These can either be stand alone racks or hung on the wall. A bowl for keys or a stool is more useful than you probably give it credit for.
Have at least one big mirror around the house, preferably near the bedroom entrance or any door, really. A mirror strategically placed around the home can help you check if you look nice enough to go out and meet the world. Put in a shelf or shoe rack in there too, with a bench or a chair for you to sit on while putting on your shoes.
Add in some art. These could be framed, or maybe even a plant. Just make your place look like you put some thought in it, if you are not a huge fan of art or anything that exudes culture. More importantly this tells people that you can be a bit sensitive and would do well in long intelligent conversations.
While there are still so much that can be said in here, the last on the list would be glassware. The things you got from home and stole from previous roommates do not count. If you do not know which one to buy, go with plain white dishes and silver utensils. Plain clear glasses and black mugs should do just fine.
